The cost of shipping

Responsibility for the packaging costs

  • You, as a selling artist, bear the costs of packaging the works and you are responsible for the correct packaging. As described in , the cost of packaging should already be included in the pricing of your works.
  • You can download a template for pricing your artwork on your dashboard in the Resources section.

Responsibility for the shipping costs

  • The shipping costs of a work are calculated by us and added to the price determined by you and published in this way.
  • So the shipping costs are included in the sales price, as indicated on the website.
  • The buyer will, therefore, be charged for the shipping costs.

Delivery and payment

  • The work is shipped directly to the customer.
  • The delivery time may vary. Based on the tracking number on the pick-up certificate, you can track the transport route on the Internet.
  • The customer has the right to return the work within seven (7) days counting from the day of delivery.
  • Accordingly, the payment in your favor will be made at the earliest after seven (7) days from the date of delivery to the customer.

Packaging the work the right way

The shipping insurance will only pay for any damage if the works have been packed according to the following guidelines. It is, therefore, crucial to follow the guidelines closely, so that in case of damage the responsibilities are not at your expense.

The paint must be thoroughly dry. This is especially true for paintings with thick layers of paint. On the surface, such layers of paint are already dry, but they may still be soft under it. Take special care of oil paint. Depending on the condition and environmental conditions, oil paint sometimes takes months or years to harden.

Paintings up to 120 cm side length

Required packaging material

  • Acid-free glassine paper, glassine paper or tissue paper
  • Plastic wrap
  • Bubble wrap
  • 1 foam board, min. 10mm thick, same dimensions as the painting
  • or 1 two-ply corrugated board, same dimensions as the painting
  • 2 foam boards, min. 10mm thick, slightly larger dimension like the painting
  • or 2 two-ply corrugated boards, slightly larger dimension than the painting
  • Adhesive tape
  • Corner protectors
  • Cardboard box

The programme of work

  1. Cover the painting in acid-free glassine paper, glassine paper or tissue paper. In general, all materials that touch the surface of the work must be of archive quality. Wear soft, undyed, ungummed gloves during this work.
  2. Fold triangular pockets made of glassine paper, glassine paper or tissue paper. For this, fold a square piece of paper diagonally at first. Then fold the resulting triangle in the middle again.
  3. Put the paper bags on the corners of the painting.
  4. Place the painting on a foam board or two-ply corrugated board with the same dimensions as the painting.
  5. Tape the painting onto the plate. The painting is only attached to the corner pockets and not to the wrapping.
  6. Wrap the package in plastic wrap. Seal the plastic wrap with adhesive tape all around to protect the work from moisture (condensation).
  7. Wrap the package in 2 (two) layers of bubble wrap. Secure the wrap with adhesive tape.
  8. Slip corner protectors over all corners.
  9. Place the entire package between two foam boards or two-ply corrugated boards that are at least the same size as the wrapped work. Fix the boards with tape.

Make sure that no pressure is exerted to the surface of the work.

  1. Put the package in a cardboard box. The box must provide 5 to 10 cm space in length and width.
  2. Fill the empty room with bubble wrap or soft paper so that the work can not move.
  3. Seal the box with the H-method:

H-sealing-method
Seal all openings of the box completely with adhesive tape.

The labeling

  1. Stick the address label at the appropriate location on the top of the package.
  2. Protect the label with a transparent adhesive film.
  3. With a felt tip pen write FRAGILE (in CAPITAL LETTERS) at a prominent place onto the box, or use FRAGILE labels.
